Inverse Saturable Absorption Mechanism in Mode-Locked Fiber Lasers with a Nonlinear Amplifying Loop Mirror

چکیده

From the perspective of differential phase delay experienced by two counterpropagating optical fields, self-starting mode-locked fiber laser with a non-linear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) is theoretically studied. Although it generally believed that NALM shows saturable absorption effect on both continuous wave (CW) light and pulses, we find counter-intuitive fact cross-phase modulation (XPM) leads to opposite signs shifts (NPSs) in these cases, resulting inverse (ISA) during pulse formation process. The ISA not helpful for mode-locking can be alleviated introducing non-reciprocal shifter into loop. These results are optimizing design lowering threshold high-repetition-rate laser.

Femtosecond passively mode-locked fiber lasers using saturable Bragg reflectors

We demonstrate a soliton fiber laser with 280-fs pulses at 408-MHz repetition rate, and a stretched-pulse regime fiber laser with 102-fs pulses at 234-MHz repetition rate. Both use saturable Bragg reflectors for mode-locking and/or self-starting. Introduction Compact sources of femtosecond laser pulses are an attractive and versatile technology for a variety of applications, such as frequency m...

Short Cavity Erbium/Ytterbium Fiber Lasers Mode-Locked with a Saturable Bragg Reflector

We present short cavity erbium/ytterbium fiber lasers that are passively mode-locked with a saturable Bragg reflector. The lasers produce sub-500-fs pulses at fundamental cavity repetition rates as high as 300 MHz. Stable passive harmonic operation increases the repetition rate to 2.0 GHz. The mode-locking mechanism in both the normal and anomalous group velocity dispersion regimes is investiga...

Mode-locked ytterbium fiber lasers.

A compact fiber laser is demonstrated with use of a Gires-Tournois compensator and a short length (2-4 cm-long) of highly doped ytterbium (Yb) fiber providing net anomalous group-velocity dispersion. With use of a novel semiconductor saturable absorber mirror based on GaInNAs structure, self-started 1.5-ps-pulse mode-locked operation was obtained at 1023 nm with a repetition rate of 95 MHz. A m...

Black phosphorus: a two-dimension saturable absorption material for mid-infrared Q-switched and mode-locked fiber lasers

Black phosphorus (BP) as a novel class of two-dimension (2D) materials has recently attracted enormous attention as a result of its unique physical and chemical features. The remarkably strong light-matter interaction and tunable direct band-gap at a wide range make it an ideal candidate especially in the mid-infrared wavelength region as the saturable absorber (SA). In this paper, the simple a...
